Teacher Instructions
1. Access the DET Portal by clicking on the link below:
https://portal.det.nsw.edu.au
2. Open your email account
3. Click on 'New' in the top left hand side
4. Click on the 'To' button, which opens the GAL - Global Address List.
5. Click in the Alias field
6. Type a 'tilde' (~) which is done by holding down the 'Shift" and Pressing the key above the 'Tab' key.
7. Then enter your school code next to the tilde.
8. Click on 'Find'
9. Select your class or tick the box next it (Apple) form the list that appears below.
10. Click 'To' from underneath this window
11. Click 'Close'
12. Highlight all the text in the Email Task section below.
13. Copy and Paste this text into your email text window
14. Press 'Send' - the lesson will then go to all students in your class.


This means upto 30 emails will be returned to you - if you do not wish to reply to each individual email then repeat the steps 4-11 to send one email to email the whole class thanking them for their efforts.

Task Relates to Chance & Probability: Chance & Probability - Email Task 1
1. Click on this link http://www.rainforestmaths.com
2. Click on Level F
3. Click on the 4th icon in row 4 (Chance & Probability)
4. Play the game. Throw the dice 24 times by clicking play 24 times.
5. Read the question (in orange writing) and choose an answer. Click next after answering. Do this for each question. There are five questions. Take note of your score at the end of the fifth question.
6. Email me the answers to the following questions by clicking on Reply from this email. Type your answers to these questions:
• What was the name of the activity you did?
• What was your score?
• Did you like the activity you did? Why / why not?
7. Click the Send button at the top of your email. Your answers will be sent to your teacher.
8. Open Email Task 2 and complete.


Chance & Probability - Email Task 2
You have completed the Chance and probability exercise in Rainforest Maths. If you haven’t go back to Chance & Probability - Email Task 1 and complete it before continuing.


Answer these questions and email me your responses by clicking on Reply, clicking after each question, changing the font colour to red and typing your answers. Click Send when finished. Your answers will be sent to your teacher.


NOTE: If working on an Apple computer, you will need to write your answers in black as you don’t have the option to change the font colour.
1. Why is it unlikely that you will roll a twelve on you first throw?
2. Why is it certain that you will roll between a two and a twelve on each roll of the dice?
3. Why is it impossible to roll a number larger than twelve?
4. What makes it likely that you will roll an eight after ten turns?
5. If you were to roll the dice ten times, is it certain that you will always roll a score of eight? Explain your answer?
6. Why is it unlikely that you will get the same total 5 times in a row?
